New Opportunities RSVP program is seeking to place volunteers at local health centers in greater Waterbury, Connecticut providing patient support.

Health Center visiting provides one-on-one patient support services each week. Staff members are freed to provide skilled participant needs. The volunteer support services range from card playing, arts, crafts, bingo calling, reading aloud, book discussions, game playing, sewing, knitting, and crocheting to one-on-one conversations. Letter writting or reading family correspondense helps keep the blues away. Visiting is the number one way to help patients recover quickly or stay mentally active.

RSVP has volunteer partnerships with many Health Care, Rehabilitation and Nursing facilities in the greater Waterbury area to provide supported volunteers.

The RSVP program provides volunteer insurance, mileage reimbursement and recognition to our volunteers.

Skills necessary include:

  • Reading
  • Music and craft skills
  • Fluency in English and/or another language

Must be at least 55 years of age.
