Family Preservation

Family PreservationIntensive Family Preservation (IFP) serves families in which at least one minor child is at-risk of removal to a foster home without swift intervention in the form of in-home service. It is a short-term intensive program under the direction of the State’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) which takes place within the actual family residence in order to immediately reduce safety risks to the child. It also addresses the risk of future abuse or neglect which could result in out-of-home placement for the child.

Each family receives a minimum of five hours per week of face-to-face contact with their case worker for a period of 12 weeks which may be extended if necessary. All referrals must come from the local DCF office and are administered by New Opportunities.
